History

History of Meyers & Tabakin Inc

On a bustling Main Street in downtown Norfolk in 1906, a young gentleman by the name of Louis Tabakin opened up shop to sell furniture to the good citizens of Norfolk and all of southeastern Virginia. He believed strongly in the principle that if you treat your customers and people in general with fairness and honesty, that they would return the kindness. So when some customers were genuinely unable to pay cash for their furniture, Mr. Tabakin would extend credit to them so that they too could enjoy the quality and name brand furniture and accessories.

As the years passed, the business grew and new locations were opened in Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in Onley, Virginia. Furniture sales continued to grow, due in large part to the philosophy that Louis Tabakin handed down to his son’s Raymond and Burnley Tabakin and eventually his grandson, Gary Tabakin, who serves as Meyers & Tabakin’s current president.

As a third-generation, family owned furniture retailer, Meyers & Tabakin continues to stand by their customers with fair pricing on quality goods and by always providing superior service, a great selection and always at a value. We invite you to stop by one of our two locations in Portsmouth or Onley, Virginia to discover the Meyers & Tabakin difference for yourself.
